Family Audit, an interesting and innovative practice from the Italian Region of Trent

Following new contacts and collaboration arising from participation in the Eurobalance project, Italian partner Diciannove’s connection with some NGOs and Foundations in the autonomous Region of Trent has pointed to the use of a new and innovative management tool relating to the potential impact work life balance.

Family Audit is a management tool that meets the challenge of a radical cultural change within the enterprises, in order to promote real and significant structural developments within their organisations. The Audit is based on a German original, which has been transferred, translated and adapted to an Italian scenario. It involves a wide structural analysis of management and operations that helps to define employee needs and indicate actions to develop better work life balance conditions. An outcome of the process is formal certification of work life balance fairness within the company.

The Trent Province will soon introduce specific obligations for enterprises that want to get public grants to be certified as part of the eligibility criteria. The innovative nature of this kind of certification is starting to spread around Italy, as the Provincial Department for work life balance policy has just signed an agreement with the Minister for Family to disseminate the certification practice across the whole country. The municipality of Parma will be the first public body to introduce the Family Audit certificate within its organisation.
