Flexicurity

The European Commission has detailed its commitment to Flexicurity in a new strategy document, ‘An Agenda for new skills and jobs: A European contribution towards full employment’.

Flexicurity was adopted by the EC during 2007 as a means of modernising labour markets and promoting work through new forms of flexibility and security.  There are four components of flexicurity:
  • Flexible and reliable contractual arrangements
  • Active labour market policies
  • Life-long learning
  • Modern social security systems
Evidence shows that flexicurity policies have lessened the impact of the economic crisis on employees and employers.

This following document sets out how the EC would like to see flexicurity further embedded in member states employment regulations and policies.
