Proposed changes to UK Maternity and Paternity Leave Rights
The UK Government is currently consulting on proposed changes to maternity and paternity leave to make it a parental leave entitlement.

The proposed changes would enable new parents to share the current maternity leave entitlement more flexibly between the two parents.  These changes would make it fairer for fathers, who currently only receive two weeks, and maintain existing entitlements for mothers but would allow the parents to share the leave out in the best interests of their family.  If these changes are adopted they would begin in 2015 at the earliest.
