A champion defends, fights for, and promotes a cause. That person:

• believes in the cause (because others are attracted to people who have conviction),
• understands the cause (because understanding the problems and issues sells you and shows people why they should listen to you),
• has confidence (having confidence in what you say gives people the confidence to listen to you and makes it easier for them to agree with what you say), and
• has the necessary knowledge (belief, understanding and confidence will lack any foundation without knowledge).

    For many years it has been understood that an issue as complex as work life balance will only really be developed across Europe if it is championed by people who believe in it, understand the issues, and have the relevant knowledge to promote it effectively.
